Frequently Asked Questions

When is this year's Festival?

For the past several years, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham African-American Festival has been held on the 3rd Saturday of June.  This year's Festival will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, 12pm-6pm, at Ralph Sampson Park in Harrisonburg.

Where is Ralph Sampson Park?

Ralph Sampson Park is located at 431 E. Washington St in Harrisonburg.  The Festival is held on the baseball field near the corner of E. Washington St & Simms Avenue in Harrisonburg.  (For more specific info on Ralph Sampson Park, please visit the Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation website.)

How much does the Festival cost?

Nothing!  The Festival is absolutely free to attend and to enjoy an afternoon of fellowship, fun and great entertainment.  Parking is also free.  But be sure to bring some cash to buy food, souvenirs and merchandise from our vendors!

Is the Festival indoors or outdoors?

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham African-American Festival is an outdoor, rain-or-shine event.  However, there may be individual performers, seminars or exhibits inside the neighboring Lucy F. Simms Center for Continuing Education.  Please come prepared for enjoying an afternoon outdoors with umbrellas, hats/visors, sunscreen, chairs/blankets to sit on, etc.  Portable toilets and cooling stations will be available.

Who can attend the Festival?

The Festival is open to the ENTIRE public, and EVERYONE is welcome at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham African-American Festival!  The Festival is dedicated to celebrating the cultural contributions of the African-American community, and we want the entire Harrisonburg, Rockingham and neighboring communities to celebrate with us.  If you love listening to awesome live music, seeing soul-inspiring live performances, learning about your local community through exhibits and seminars, then you'll love the HRAAF!!

How can I participate in the Festival?

We are always looking for vendors with exciting merchandise and food choices, musicians, dancers, and speakers.  We also encourage non-profit organizations and "not-for-profit" individuals to exhibit and facilitate workshops, seminars, and health screenings at the Festival.   If you are interested in being a vendor, performer, or exhibitor, please contact us!  You can also sign up for our mailing list for updates, and visit our Vendor page for more info and to apply.

We are also looking for donors and business sponsorships for the Festival.  Although the Festival is free for the public to enjoy, it costs alot of money to produce, and we rely heavily on the generosity of businesses and Festival supporters like you to help make it happen.  Please visit our Donate page for more information on how you and/or your business can help ensure that the Festival can grow and do the most good.
